- Florida has hit three-month highs for new COVID-19 cases. Wednesday, 7,724 new Covid cases were reported – the highest daily total since February 12th. Florida’s weekly trend for daily cases is now the highest since February 18th.
- The surge in gas prices has continued today. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas has reached a new record high of $4.40 per gallon. In South Florida prices range from an average of $4.40 per gallon in Miami-Dade, to a statewide high of $4.53 per gallon in Palm Beach County.
- The lawsuit brought by residents of Orange County against the state’s effort to dissolve Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District has been dismissed. Citing “speculation”, the federal judge stated the lawsuit lacked merit. In response Governor DeSantis’ office said: There is no scenario where the state would inherit Disney’s debt — this is misinformation. Perhaps this will put to rest the speculation from those who are hoping — with no basis in reality — that this will end in some sort of taxpayer or state burden that partisan critics can use against the Governor. - A state circuit judge has ruled against the state’s new Congressional map. The ruling was made citing concerns related to the district currently represented by Al Lawson. In the ruling, Judge J. Layne Smith stated minority representation was more important than geography. The state promised an appeal to the Florida Supreme Court.
