- Florida’s trend for new COVID-19 cases continues to slowly rise. The weekly trend for daily cases now stands at 8,477 – the highest since February 14th. Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County are all currently considered to have a high rate of transmission according to the Florida Department of Health.
- The average gas prices have reached a new record high in Florida. As of Tuesday morning, the average statewide price was $4.53 per gallon – a five cent increase over Monday’s prices. In South Florida prices remain above average with a low of $4.56 per gallon in Miami-Dade ranging to $4.67 per gallon in Monroe and Palm Beach – the highest price in the state.
- In the first day of the state’s Special Legislative Session the Senate advanced two bills aimed at reforming the state’s failing property insurance system. The first bill entitled: Property Insurance, focuses on litigation reform in addition to providing an optional roof deductible system for future policies. The other bill entitled: Roof Repair, Replacement and Recovering Requirements - would amend Florida’s building code to state that whole roof repairs aren’t needed when damage is present. The House will consider companion legislation today.
- Florida’s “Social media bill of rights” appears to be DOA. The 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals, unanimously ruled against the state of Florida, which would have allowed the state to sanction social media platforms who take punitive action against users without cause. The court ruled the legislation was a First Amendment violation.
