Record GOP Gains Continue - Florida’s Voter Registration by Party
Bottom Line: The Florida Division of Elections latest voter registration update is in reflecting all voter registrations as of the start of May. The news continues to be positive for Republicans, while it is increasingly problematic for Florida’s Democrats. After a year in which Florida’s Democrats lost hundreds of thousands of registered voters, it's been more of the same through the first four months of this midterm election year.
While the most popular choice for newly registered or re-registered voters remains none-of-the-above (NPAs) - Republican and minor party affiliated voter rolls have risen as Democrats continue to see their numbers shrink. Given Florida’s ongoing population growth and with it being an election year, it’s especially odd to see so many lost voters at the start of this election cycle. With gains being posted elsewhere – it speaks to the general and still growing displeasure with Democrats in Florida.
These are the changes in year-to-date voter registration information:
- DEM: -73,107
- GOP: +18,203
- NPA/Other: +45,337
The current breakout of registered voters looks like this...
- DEM: 35%
- GOP: 36%
- NPA/Other: 29%
The Republican voter registration advantage over Democrats is now 134,412 voters. That’s an advantage which grew by an additional 22,877 voters over the past month. For comparison's sake, Democrats held a 97,215-voter advantage coming out of the 2020 Election Cycle. This supports the notion that Florida’s increasingly moving from being a purple state into a red-state territory and just in time for what’s shaping up to be a historically good midterm election cycle for Republicans.
