- Gas prices have edged lower this morning. The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.88 - a penny lower than yesterday. In South Florida prices range from a low of $4.91 per gallon in Miami-Dade, to $5.01 in Palm Beach County – prices that are in line with yesterday and remain record highs.
- Florida’s COVID-19 trend continued lower yesterday. With fewer than 10,000 cases reported, Florida’s weekly trend for daily cases has fallen to about 10,300. That’s the lowest in over a week.
- Florida’s Surgeon General, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, is recommending against COVID-19 vaccinations for children under the age of 5. The FDA is currently weighing approval for the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines for children as young as six months, however Dr. Ladapo stated: From what I have seen, there is just insufficient data to inform benefits and risk in children.
- The 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals has agreed to hear a challenge to Florida’s 2021 election integrity law. In April, federal Judge Mark Walker ruled against Florida’s law, however his decision was stayed by the Appeals court, leaving Florida’s law in place, pending additional legal review. The Court will hear the case in September, meaning Florida’s August primaries will be held with the law in place.
