Florida News That Impacts You – June 17th, 2022 

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.  

  • Gas prices are lower for the third consecutive day in Florida. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $4.85 today – two cents lower than yesterday. In South Florida, prices range from a low of $4.88 per gallon in Miami-Dade to $4.99 per gallon in the Palm Beaches’ which remains the highest price in the state.  
  • Florida’s Covid trend ticked up again yesterday. With over 12,700 new cases reported, Florida’s weekly trend for daily cases has risen back above 10,600. That’s about in-line with where we were a week ago.  
  • A day after Florida’s Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo recommended against children under five receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, should the CDC agree with the FDA’s recommendation authorizing use, Governor DeSantis said the low dose vaccines will be available in Florida – however the state wouldn’t be providing them. The other 49 states will administer them if authorized.  
  • Governor DeSantis announced his “Education Agenda”. As part of the agenda the Governor outlined ten principles consistent with policy enacted with Florida’s two recently enacted Parental Rights in Education laws. As part of the agenda, school board candidates now have the ability to fill out an online questionnaire for the purpose of being considered for an endorsement by DeSantis.
