- It's officially summer. Today’s the Summer Solstice, which marks the longest day of daylight the year. This happens when the sun is at its highest point over the Tropic of Cancer. Sunset is approximately 8:16 pm in South Florida today.
- Gas prices are lower by another two cents per gallon today. The average price for regular unleaded gas is $4.79 per gallon statewide. That’s about ten cents cheaper than a week ago. In South Florida prices range from an average of $4.84 in Miami-Dade to $4.95 per gallon in Monroe and Palm Beach Counties.
- Florida’s averaged about 10,600 daily COVID-19 cases over the past week. While elevated, the trend is about flat over the past two weeks with the recent peak having occurred on June 8th.
- A fourth Florida property insurer has entered insolvency this year. Tallahassee based Southern Fidelity has filed for bankruptcy protection which will lead to the 80,000-policy holders in Florida being forced to find another property insurance option. The state-backed Citizens has once again become the largest policyholder with 883,000 polices as of the most recent financial filings. The state recently passed reforms aimed at curbing Florida’s litigation crisis and provide greater stability to Florida’s property insurers, however the effects will take time to be felt within the industry.
