- Gas prices continued to decline through the weekend. The average statewide price for regular unleaded is $4.67 per gallon. That’s 14 cents lower than a week ago. In Southeast Florida prices range from an average of $4.75 per gallon in Broward and Miami-Dade to $4.85 in Palm Beach County.
- COVID-19 cases have held steady over the past week. Florida entered this week averaging 10,573 daily cases. That’s roughly in line with a week ago. The peak trend in the current cycle occurred on June 8th.
- With Friday’s SCOTUS ruling striking down Roe v Wade, Florida’s new abortion law is set to take effect Friday – which limits abortions under all but life-threatening circumstances to 15 weeks. In advance of the law taking effect, Leon County Circuit Judge John Cooper is set to hear a legal challenge to it today.
- Florida Tech researchers are close to finalizing a study into blue-green algae which has been responsible for the death of native habitats and wildlife. The study will be published in the July journal Water Research. In advance of the study’s release, researchers are said to have been able to determine conclusively that discharged algal blooms released into Florida’s waterways were directly responsible for the killing of 60,000 to 70,000 acres of seagrass leading to the manatee starvation crisis.
