- Gas prices continued lower through the weekend. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is currently $4.54 statewide – ten cents lower than a week ago. In Southeast Florida prices range from a low of $4.63 in Broward and Miami-Dade, to $4.72 in Palm Beach County.
- Florida entered this week averaging about 10,600 daily COVID-19 cases over the past week. That’s in-line with where we’ve been for about four weeks. The peak during the current cycle occurred on June 8th with an average of over 11,000 daily cases.
- The CDC is investigating a potential listeria outbreak linked to Sarasota-based ice cream company – Big Olaf Creamery. The CDC said its accounted for 23 illnesses resulting in 22 hospitalizations and one death. The brand is only sold in Florida.
- The Florida Education Association released its latest report showing the state currently has over 9,500 vacancies for educators heading into the upcoming school year. If the number holds, approximately 450,000 students would start the year without full-time teachers and teaching assistants in place.
- While the Atlanta Federal Reserve’s GDPNow tracker suggests the US economy entered a recession in the second quarter – Florida's economy showed no signs of slowing down. The state’s latest monthly revenue report shows revenue nearly $742 million or 22%, above estimates. Florida’s economy has been the best relative performer nationally over the past year.
