  • Gas prices continued to slowly rise through the weekend. The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded stands at $3.61, or eight cents above a week ago. In Southeast Florida prices range from a low of $3.64 per gallon in Miami-Dade, to an average high of $3.78 in the Palm Beaches.
  • Florida’s weekly trend for daily COVID-19 cases is at 3.5-month lows entering this week. After a brief bump higher last week, the declining trend for cases continued through the weekend. The current average is 6,164 daily cases – the lowest since May 13th.
  • The Broward School District enters this week with four new school board members after Governor DeSantis’ suspension of four members based on the recommendation of a grand jury investigation. While the report was completed last year, it was only recently released publicly on the 19th. Specifically, still at issue were ongoing unaddressed security measures in multiple schools within the Broward School District. The suspended board members are Patricia Good, Donna Korn, Laurie Rick Levinson and Anne Murray. The new board members are Torey Alston, Manual Serrano, Ryan Eiter and Kevin Tynan.
  • A study calculating the risk of damage due to hurricanes has revealed Florida is no longer the top state for hurricane damage expense. Louisiana takes the top spot with an average of $107 per resident per capita in annual hurricane expense. Mississippi is #2, while Texas is #3. Florida checks in at #4 with an annual average expense of $36.49 per capita. The study was a Moneygeek analysis of FEMA’s National Risk Index.
