Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida.
- As we head into the Labor Day weekend gas prices are two cents lower today. The average statewide price is currently $3.56 per gallon. In Southeast Florida prices range from an average low of $3.60 per gallon in Miami-Dade to a high of $3.75 per gallon in the Palm Beaches.
- With just over 6,500 newly reported cases on Thursday, which is typically the peak day for reporting, Florida’s weekly trend for daily COVID-19 cases has fallen to about 5,700 daily cases, the lowest since early May.
- It wasn’t just your imagination – it really was hotter than ever in the Palm Beaches in August. The average temperature recorded in West Palm Beach was 85.6 degrees – easily passing the previous record of 85 degrees in 2016.
- There’s continued hope we’re turning the corner on the manatee starvation crisis in Florida. As of the FWC’s most recent update at the end of August, 430 fewer manatees have died this year compared to last year – a decline of 39%. It’s possible some of the decline can be attributed to there being fewer manatees after last year’s record mortality event due to starvation.
