Florida News That Impacts You – September 14th, 2022

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. Gas prices continued lower through the weekend.

  • The statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is flat today at $3.44 per gallon. In Southeast Florida prices range from an average low of $3.49 per gallon in Broward to an average high of $3.64 per gallon in the Palm Beaches.
  • Florida reported the lowest daily COVID-19 totals in nearly four months yesterday. With only 2,290 new cases – the lowest since April 17th, Florida’s weekly trend for daily cases remains at the lowest levels since late April.
  • Florida’s rate of inflation continued to track above the national average in August. While the national inflation rate paced an 8.3% year-over-year increase, the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro’s inflation rate was 10.7% - which is a new 41-year high for South Florida. A combination of food and housing/rental prices rising above the national average is responsible for the difference.
  • Hard Rock and Seminole Gaming have announced a plan to significantly raise wages for many employees. According to the plan, approximately half of employees at the Seminole Hard Rock properties will receive raises of up to 60%. Raises are immediate for non-tipped employees and for all new hires.
