- Gas prices are averaging $3.40 per gallon statewide – flat with yesterday’s price and six cents higher than a week ago. In Southeast Florida prices range from a low of $3.40 per gallon in Miami-Dade to an average high of $3.54 per gallon in the Palm Beaches. The recent increase in prices has mitigated the benefit of the state’s suspension of the 25.3 cent per gallon gas tax during the month of October.
- Florida’s trend for new COVID-19 cases remains at a 6+ month low. With only 909 new COVID-19 cases reported yesterday, Florida’s weekly trend for daily cases entering this week is now 1,403 – the lowest since March 30th.
- Governor DeSantis announced $200 million in funds will be made available to approximately 1,400 schools across the state as a result of meeting performance goals. “A” rated schools are eligible for funds which may be used for nonrecurring expenses including bonuses for educators and equipment. The money was allocated by the state legislature during this year’s budget process.
- Florida’s first cold front of the fall won’t bring freezing temps to South Florida, our lows are expected to bottom out in the 60’s over the next few days, however it may bring freezing temperatures to north Florida. The National Weather Service has issued weather advisories to parts of North Florida including freeze watches for some communities. The front has the potential to bring record low temps to many parts of the state.
