Florida’s History in the Making & Economic Gaslighting – Top 3 Takeaways – October 27th
- It’s been a minute. The year was... Elisabeth Blackwell established the first Women’s medical college in the United States. Multiple Sclerosis was first diagnosed. The first Memorial Day was recognized. Little Women was published. President Andrew Johnson was impeached. Ulysses S. Grant was elected president. The Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing citizenship to former slaves in the south was adopted. Yeah, it’s been a minute. The year was 1868. A time so long-ago Joe Biden wasn’t even holding political office quite yet. Why the heck is my top takeaway today about 1868? As I mentioned on Tuesday, the last time a Republican won Florida’s governor's race by more than 13 points was Harrison Reed in 1868. There have been a few things have changed across our state over the past 154 years, but Republicans cruising to election wins in Florida hasn’t been one of them.... That is perhaps until this year. The reason I brought up the historical comparison in the first place was because as I mentioned Tuesday: The RealClear Politics prognostication shows America’s governor winning the election by nearly 15-points. And what’s changed since then? Nothing. Post Monday’s debate there have been two more polls showing double-digit leads for Americans Governor and a projected win by RCP of slightly greater than 15-points. It’s worth mentioning that in 2018 Ron DeSantis performed exactly 4% better than the average of the polls. And based upon them, Governor DeSantis is entering the final week and a half of the campaign, pacing a potential win that ranks somewhere between huge and historic. But of course, political polls mean nothing. It’s only who shows up and votes at the polls which does. So, this is interesting conversationally, and it's encouraging generally, but I’ll say again get out and vote like your freedom depends on it, because as we’ve learned time and again over the past couple of years...it does.
- Growth is good. Gaslighting is not. Thursday’s GDP Report, showing the economy turned positive in the third quarter after spending the first half of the year in a technical recession, was welcomed news. Growth is good. But what it wasn’t was a narrative that endlessly played out on the left, starting with the President of the United States yesterday, who tweeted this: For months, doomsayers have been arguing that the US economy is in a recession and Congressional Republicans have been rooting for a downturn. But with today’s Third Quarter GDP Report, we got further evidence that our economic recovery is continuing to power forward. And his Labor Secretary Marty Walsh who tweeted: Today’s Q3 GDP Report shows: Incomes increased. Price increases in the economy came down. Well, shoot, I guess all of your problems are solved. I guess you no longer have to worry about paying the bills. You must magically now have money in your wallet you didn’t used to have. Ahh yes, gaslighting that’s alive and well. Now, had either suggested that the 3rd quarter report was a step in the right direction, that would have been an accurate and a reasonable assessment. But for Biden to deny the fact that the US economy was in a technical recession for the first half of the year brought about by 40-year high inflation which still plagues us to this day is...
- Wrong and offensive. For him to suggest the economic recovery is continuing to power forward while only 17% of Americans, according to the Pew Research Center, say it’s at least “good”. 17%, let that sink in for a moment. You can’t even find Democrats this side of the pink shirt people at Monday night’s debate who think it is – let alone anyone else operating in reality. All while a record low of only 42% of Americans think future generations will be better off than we are. And for the dip-poo Labor Secretary to tout incomes having increased and prices coming down. He’s just resorted to appealing to exclusively the economically illiterate. Inflation adjusted incomes have fallen by the furthest amount in a year in over 40 years most recently – which btw, is why only 17% of Americans think the economy doesn’t suck. It’s one thing to jack up our whole country and economy, which these political pieces of poo have done. It’s still another to grab ahold of the poo that you’ve created and start slinging it at the American people who’ve been already screwed with your policies. But it’s a special level of audacity with these jokers creating the problems, grabbing the poo and setting it on fire as they sling it our way. As always, you can lie to people about policy and those who are dumb enough to believe you, might at first. But you can’t lie to people about what is or isn’t in their wallet. Not even Democrats. They know. Growth is good. Gaslighting, much like this economy, is not. It’s wrong and offensive. In happier news, Election Day is just eleven days away.
