Florida News That Impacts You – November 1st, 2022 

Bottom Line: Your daily recap of the biggest news from around the state that impacts you in South Florida. Gas prices continued lower through the weekend.  

  • As of today, the state’s 25.3 cent per gallon gas tax is being collected again. As a result the average price statewide is $3.54 per gallon. In Southeast Florida prices range from a low of $3.56 per gallon in Broward, to an average high of $3.72 per gallon in the Palm Beaches.  
  • As we’re a week away from Election Day, over 2.77 million Floridians have voted either by mail or through early in-person voting. Democrats continue to maintain a lead with vote by mail ballots, while Republicans have voted in larger numbers with early voting. Republicans have outvoted Democrats by 95,751 votes thus far. Early voting continues from 7am to 7pm in the TriCounty through Sunday. 
  • Effective today, Citizens Property Insurance, the state’s insurer of last resort, with over 1 million in force policies, will renew policies with average price increases of 6.4%. Citizens had requested a 10.7% increase; however, Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation only approved the lower rate.  
  • The University of Florida’s Board of Trustees meets today to consider Senator Ben Sasse as the next president of the University of Florida. After a series of student protests at the University coinciding with Sasses’ recent visit, UF officials said they will enforce a policy prohibiting indoor protests. The Board of Trustees vote goes to the Board of Governors for final consideration.
