- Palm Beach County Commissioner Dave Kerner, a Democrat who endorsed Governor DeSantis for reelection last year, has been nominated by Governor DeSantis to become the Executive Director of Florida Highway Safety. Kerner will immediately become the interim director until a confirmation vote takes place January 17th. In a related move...
- Governor DeSantis has appointed Palm Beach County Republican Party Chair Michael Barnett to the county commission replacing Kerner. The move, combined with Republicans flipping two seats from Democrats in November’s elections, has resulted in flipping the commission to a Republican majority.
- A substitute teacher who taught at Palm Beach Central High School has been charged with sexual solicitation of a student. Evelyn Hayes was indicted for attempting to arrange sexual relations between a 15-year-old girl and her 50 year-old boyfriend, Thomas Hicklin. Hicklin has also been charged in the solicitation case. The situation is believed to be isolated, however students or parents who may have additional information or concerns about inappropriate conduct should contact authorities.
- Florida’s gas prices were flat over the past day. The statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded remains $3.31. The average price per gallon in Palm Beach County is up a penny however, to $3.47, which is the highest price in the state.
