- Governor DeSantis announced what he calls the Moving Florida Forward initiative on Monday which is designed to accelerate transportation projects over the next four years. The plan calls for $4 billion in infrastructure spending by the state that the FDOT would use to complete 20 planned infrastructure projects. The governor said the accelerated timetable is necessary to keep up with record net migration into the state along with record tourism.
- Florida House Speaker Paul Renner proposed a “constitutional carry” bill to be considered in the upcoming state legislative session. The legislation mirrors what has been done in other states enabling permitless carrying of firearms. 25 other states already have similar measures in place.
- Amid the ongoing illegal immigration crisis, The Florida Division of Emergency Management said they’ve removed 40 vessels and identified an additional 250 in Florida’s waters which were used and abandoned by illegal immigrants they’ve identified for removal in January alone. Over 1,000 similar vessels have been identified by the state over the past year.
- Florida’s gas prices are flat over the past day with the statewide average remaining $3.56 per gallon for regular unleaded. Prices have risen by eight cents per gallon over the past week. In the Palm Beaches, the average price is $3.74 per gallon, the highest price in the state.
