  • Governor DeSantis is providing additional details on proposals being considered by the state aimed at curbing the growing affordability crisis in condo communities. Following a listening session in Miami Lakes on Monday, the governor’s office indicated reforms under consideration include extending compliance deadlines for inspections and reserve funding and providing low or no interest loans to condo associations to meet code under Florida law. DeSantis has indicated the intent to hold a special session before the end of the year to address this issue.  
  • Following the decision by the Stuart city council to rescind the previously approved plan to move forward with a Brightline station, Fort Pierce officials, who vied for a Treasure Coast station originally, are encouraging Brightline to reconsider their city. Fort Pierce’s mayor and the president of the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County spoke in favor of bringing Brightline to their community on Tuesday. Related... 
  • Martin County commissioners voted to reengage Brightline officials with the hope of renegotiating a deal to bring Brightline to Martin County following the surprise vote in Stuart to abort the proposal. Brightline’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs told WPTV regarding this week’s events, We’re kind of left a little bit shocked and kind of dismayed. It's unclear what direction Brightline will go with a proposed Treasure Coast station from here.  
  • It’ll be another warm and stormy day today with showers possible throughout the day and highs in the upper 80’s. Temperatures will be about 2 degrees warmer than usual for this date. The National Hurricane Center is tracking three systems. Hurricane Francine is expected to make landfall in Louisiana tonight with top sustained winds near 90 mph, a category 1 hurricane at landfall. The intensity forecasting is a bit lower than yesterday. A disturbance in the central Atlantic now has only a 30% chance of development over the next seven days, lower than yesterday, while a disturbance just to the east of it has an 80% chance of development a bit higher than yesterday. Yesterday marked the historical peak day of hurricane season activity. 
  • Gas prices rose a penny per gallon on Wednesday – though they rose a bit more locally. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.18 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.35 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.17 and in Indian River County the average is $3.15 per gallon.
