  • Six cyber scams resulting in the loss of $2.4 million for Floridians have been shut down. On Thursday AG Ashley Moody announced Florida’s Cyber Fraud Enforcement Unit took down the criminal operations and seven people behind them. The scams commonly targeted seniors for identity theft. $100,000 has been returned to victims with an additional $2.2 million pending as the state attempts to identify losses by victim.  
  • The findings of a House ethics investigation into South Florida Democrat Sheila Cherilus-McCormick found “substantial reason to believe” that her campaign and/or congressional office violated campaign finance guidelines a minimum of four times over 2+ years totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. The alleged violations include improper services, excessive contributions and unreported transactions. The report notes that McCormick’s income jumped by over $6 million in the leadup to her special election win to replace the late Alcee Hastings.  
  • U-Haul's annual migration study shows Florida among the top states for net migration yet again over the past year, but with the lowest ranking since prior to the pandemic. Florida ranked 4th for migration, down from 2nd last year. South Carolina, Texas and North Carolina ranked ahead of Florida for net migration. According to Census data, Florida was the second fastest grower with 467,347 new residents over the past year. 
  • After starting in the 50’s this morning, today will be cool and partly cloudy with highs in the low to mid 70’s - cooler than usual for this date. Still cooler air will continue to make its way into our area tonight with lows in the 40’s expected Saturday morning. 
  • Gas prices rose by a penny per gallon on Thursday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.13 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.26 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.17 and in Indian River County the average is $3.14 per gallon.
