- Flu cases are now ‘very high’ in Florida according to the CDC’s weekly data with overall reported cases up 19% from a week ago. The H1N1 virus remains the most common strain of the flu. Cases are rising in 59 of Florida’s 67 counties including the entire east coast of Florida.
- Florida’s population is expected to continue to growth through the back half of the decade but at a slower rate than through the first five years according to a new study by the University of Virginia. Florida’s population is estimated to top 23.8 million by 2030, or about 800,000 more residents than currently live in Florida. Florida was the second largest grower in 2024 with an additional 467,347 residents according to the Census Bureau.
- Planned redevelopment of the Boca Raton Tri-Rail station could include a mixed use eight story addition. According to a proposed $40 million Tri-Rail plan, the Boca Village project would establish 340 residences, 15% allocated for affordable housing, with over 30,000 feet of commercial space.
- Today will be warmer with partly cloudy skies by midday and highs in the upper 70’s, a little warmer than usual for this date. Much cooler air will begin to make its way into our area overnight and stay with us throughout the week with tomorrow’s highs in the 60’s.
- Gas prices dropped a bit through the weekend but are higher than a week ago. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.10 per gallon - four cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.24 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.12 and in Indian River County the average is $3.07 per gallon.
