- Driven in large part by Florida’s cruise industry, the state is second in the nation in norovirus cases this flu season based on new CDC data. The cruise industry has experienced the highest number of outbreaks, 16, in over a decade leading to a spillover effect throughout the state. Officials are emphasizing that those who are sick shouldn’t travel.
- Martin and St. Lucie Counties have new sheriffs today. After 52 years in law enforcement Martin County Sheriff William Snyder officially retired on Monday. Martin County Chief Deputy John Budensiek has replaced him. In St. Lucie County Richard Del Toro, formerly of the Port St. Lucie Police Department has taken over from Keith Pearson who served out the rest of retired sheriff Ken Mascara’s term.
- A 78-year-old water tower is being taken down in Lake Worth Beach due to safety concerns. The tower located at 22nd Avenue North and North D Street is set for demolition next Monday, January 13th, after numerous reports of debris falling from the tower. It’s not been in use since August of 2023, though it has served as a historical landmark.
- The cold front has arrived delivering the coolest temps of the season. After starting the day in the 40’s and 50’s this morning, highs are expected to be in the mid to upper 60’s today. Similar weather is expected through Friday.
- Gas prices dropped two cents per gallon on Monday. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.08 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.21 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.07 and in Indian River County the average is $3.01 per gallon.
