  • Floridians paid $660 million to cover the costs of healthcare of illegal immigrants last year according to a new report from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. The report cites 67,700 illegal immigrants who made emergency room visits with costs covered completely by taxpayers over the past year. The cost amounts to an extra $77.19 in costs per Florida household. A recent law passed by the state of Florida mandates data collection of a patient’s immigration status – leading to the findings. 
  • The Martin County Commission voted unanimously to reject the implementation of Brightline “quiet zones” desired by residents in close proximity to the railroad tracks. Officials said the vote was to prioritize safety over quality of life considerations. 
  • The Palm Beach County School Board has approved new zoning maps that will bring an estimated 600 students to the newly completed Saddle View Elementary School in Wellington. The school, which will open in August, with the new school year, will gain the highest number of students from Binks Forest Elementary.  
  • A cool start with sunny skies again today. Highs will be near 80 – which is a bit warmer than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected for Friday with temperatures gradually rising over the weekend. 
  • Gas prices dropped another two cents per gallon on Wednesday reaching a fresh low for the year. The average price for regular unleaded in Florida is currently $3.00 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $3.13 per gallon, in Martin the average is $2.95 and in Indian River County the average is $2.95 per gallon.
