- Online retailer, and Boston-based company, Wayfair announced plans to open its first physical location in Florida. The store is planned to be a massive 94,000 square-foot, two-story store at Galleria Fort Lauderdale with an ETA of the 4th quarter of next year.
- The impasse between the teacher’s union and the Palm Beach County school district continues. Superintendent Michael Burke rejected a 3.5% proposed pay increase for teachers in the district, which was recently recommended by a magistrate recommendation. The school district has offered a 1.5% pay increase with a one-time 1.5% payout that’s been rejected by the union. The PBC school board will now hold a hearing on the matter in May.
- Kendra Zellner is poised to win the runoff election in North Palm Beach’s Group 4 municipal election over Ron Okolichany. Zellner holds a 39-vote advantage (or 1.5%) with a small number of vote-by-mail ballots yet to be cured.
- We’ll have heavy rain throughout the day again today with a flood watch in effect for all of South Florida and the Treasure Coast. Flood watches are in effect throughout the entire area with localized rainfall totals of up to an additional 5 inches possible over the next 24 hours. Today’s highs will be in the mid 70’s – which is well below average for this date. We can expect rain to continue through Thursday.
- Gas prices fell 2 cents per gallon Tuesday to $4.16 per gallon on average statewide. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.31 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.17, it’s $4.18 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.16 per gallon.
