- South Florida based Spirit Airlines, which at one point employed 13,000 employees and over 5,000 in South Florida, ceased operations over the weekend. The failure of the company comes following a blocked merger with JetBlue which was rejected by the Biden administration. Spirit is issuing automatic refunds to all customers who’d paid for future flights with a credit or debit card.
- This week is NOAA and the National Weather Service’s annual Hurricane Preparedness week in advance of June’s start to hurricane season. Each day has a specific area of focus. Sundays was: Know Your Risk Understand wind, water, and flood hazards in your area. Today’s focus is Prepare Before Hurricane Season Develop evacuation plans and check insurance coverage.
- Big Dog Ranch Rescue has taken in 300 beagles rescued from a Wisconsin breeding facility over the weekend. The dogs will be readied for adoption early this week.
- We’ll have showers and thunderstorms throughout the day today with highs in the upper 70’s throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast – cooler than usual for this date. Rain remains possible for tomorrow along with a warming trend that will continue through the week.
- Gas prices are considerably higher than a week ago at $4.34 per gallon statewide – 40 cents higher than a week ago. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.51 per gallon, in Martin the average is $4.38, it’s $4.38 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $4.37 per gallon.
