- Temporary Protect Status for Haitians expired on Monday following the Supreme Court’s recent ruling ending the status received in January of 2010 due to an earthquake on the Island nation. The Trump administration has indicated that they’ll begin ICE operations to detain and deport those who remain here illegally. Approximately 158,000 of the 330,000 estimated Haitians remaining in the U.S. under the TPS are believed to be in Florida with the highest populations in South Florida.
- Republican Gubernatorial Candidate James Fishback won the legal challenge to his eligibility to run for governor and will remain on the primary ballot. 2nd Judicial Circuit court Judge David Frank ruled that the legal challenge to Fishback’s candidacy – which requires that a candidate be a full-time resident of Florida for a minimum of seven years prior to running for governor – placed a burden of proof on the Collins legal team which the judge wasn’t satisfied was met. At issue is a residence owned in Washington, D.C. by Fishback and a vote cast in the 2020 election cycle. The decision may be appealed, however whether that will occur is unclear, and the August primary election is only three weeks from today (18th).
- Carmine’s is coming to Boca Raton. The Italian market and restaurant announced that a Carmine Gourmet Market and Carmine’s La Trattoria will be coming to the new mixed-use development known as Glades Station on Glades Road and Dixie Highway. The grand opening is expected during the first quarter of 2027.
- It'll be partly cloudy and hot with a chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Today’s high will be in the low 90’s – warmer than usual for this date. Similar weather is expected throughout the week. The National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Weather Outlook is clear for the next seven days. Persistent Saharan dust from the coast of Africa extends over most of the southern and mid-Atlantic with dust extending over the Caribbean, Cuba, through the Gulf of America.
- The price of gas dropped by 3 cents per gallon on Monday. The average price for regular unleaded fuel is currently $3.94 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.11 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.93, it’s $3.96 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.95 per gallon.
