- Governor DeSantis marked the start of the new school year next week on Thursday by touting the state’s successes including Florida’s ranking #1 in education for two of the past three years, #1 in education freedom, #1 on the educator Talent Attraction Scorecard and #1 in workforce education. Desantis said: Students across the state get ready to go back to school, we wish them a successful year ahead. We appreciate the parents, educators, and school leaders whose dedication to students is leaving them better prepared than ever, and we will keep working to ensure that the best days for education in Florida are still ahead.
- Palm Beach County’s zoning commission unanimously recommended a one-year moratorium for the construction of data centers on Thursday. This follows a recent vote by the Palm Beach County Commission on implementing a one-year moratorium. The Commission argued that the moratorium was needed to draft regulations pertaining to noise, water consumption, electrical demand, land-use, and designated locations. Florida law already addresses many of these issues – including the use of reclaimed water and all power demands and costs being assumed by data center operators.
- Boynton Beach officials have announced a halt to build a new Public Safety Training Center for the Boynton Beach Police Department amid public backlash from residents in Golfview Harbour, which neighbors the site of the proposed facility.
- The Costco in Stuart will reopen as usual today following the closure yesterday due to an electrical fire. Store management advises that only dry goods may be available today.

Similar and slightly warmer weather is expected through the weekend. The National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Weather Outlook is clear for the next seven days. Persistent Saharan dust from the coast of Africa extends over most of the southern and mid-Atlantic with dust extending over the Caribbean, Cuba, through the Gulf of America. Another plume began to make its way over Florida yesterday.
- The price of gas dropped 3 cents per gallon on Thursday. The statewide average price for regular unleaded fuel is currently $3.93 per gallon. In Palm Beach County the average price is $4.07 per gallon, in Martin the average is $3.93, it’s $3.93 in St. Lucie, and in Indian River County the average is $3.92 per gallon.
