Two elected leaders from two different southern Palm Beach County municipalities are vying for the open seat in District 91 of the Florida House of Representatives.
Republican Peggy Gossett-Seidman serves on the Highland Beach Town Commission, while Democrat Andy Thomson serves on the Boca Raton City Council.
Gossett-Seidman says it's imperative for local funding purposes to have a Republican state representative in the area.
"Historically that is what happened no matter who is in charge in Tallahassee, the party in leadership tends to work better with the party members of their home districts."
Thomson calls himself a "moderate Democrat" who looks for "common sense bipartisan solutions" to problems.
Gossett-Seidman currently works in public relations after years as a sports journalist.
Thomson is a business attorney who says that gives him a leg up in District 91.
"Having represented many businesses in our community, to understand what business owners need, what makes our economy so strong down here, its pain, its vibrancy."
He grew up in Coral Springs in Broward County and moved to Boca Raton in 2013. Meanwhile, Gossett-Seidman says she's lived in the district 31 years and claims she knows the community better.
