In the race for the Florida House of Representatives in District 89, Democrat David Silvers has been in the state House since 2016.
If elected to another term, he says more reform to our state's property insurance system is needed...especially in the wake of Hurricane Ian. Silvers explains his problem with a lot of the insurers in our state.
"They are leaving and they're saying 'You know what? We're not gonna provide you Wind anymore...even though you've been paying us for several years for Wind Coverage, we're not going to do that anymore. To me, that's a bad actor. I would like to see some type of requirement that if you were providing Wind previously and you want to stay in the third largest state in the nation and the tenth largest economy in the world, then you probably don't want to be a bad actor."
Republican candidate Daniel Zapata is a second-generation American whose family escaped communism in Cuba.
He grew up in Palm Beach County and graduated from Atlantic Christian Academy, where he currently works. But Zapata is concerned about Florida's public schools.
"I've had a front row seat to see the migration out of our public schools because of what our students are being taught. What we need to ensure is that the money follows the student instead of allowing a zip code to determine where these students end up and what opportunities they get to get because of the school they end up at."
