The race for Congressional District 22 is in our Election Spotlight.
Representative Lois Frankel has been serving in the U.S. House (currently in CD-21, but redistricting has her attempting a move to the newly revamped CD-22) for five terms and wants a sixth. The Democrat says she's earned it.
"I've been a very strong voice and have a strong record supporting access to legal abortion, gun safety, voting rights, Social Security, Medicare and funding to combat climate change."
She faces a challenge from Republican Dan Franzese, a businessman in the financial sector. He says economics is the number one issue that comes up when he speaks with voters in the district.
"Americans are hurting because the policies of the current administration, which Lois Frankel has wholeheartedly endorsed."
But, Franzese says all Frankel and other Democrats want to talk about is Abortion...
"They want to use it as an emotional wedge issue to distract you from the issues that I was talking about and all the failures of the administration."
Frankel denies that...
"Well, first of all we did not divert people's attention. The United States Supreme Court did that by reversing 50 years of precedent and basically taking away access to freedom for women to make their own healthcare decisions."
It should be noted that the Supreme Court's ruling put the abortion rights issue back in the power of the states.
