The municipal elections in 17 Palm Beach County communities are on Tuesday and the Village of Palm Springs is in my Election Spotlight.
There's just one race and it's open for all voters in the municipality.
23-year District 4 incumbent Joni Brinkman faces a challenge from Alberto Jordat, who is the Director of Operations at the County's Film and Television Commission.
We asked both candidates about a bill that passed the Senate yesterday which would allo business owners to sue local governments for enacting policies that negatively impact their business.
Jordat weighs in...
"While I haven't had a chance to follow that what I'll say is that any policy or legislation that is pro-business, I'm generally in favor of. So, we need to protect our small businesses."
Brinkman, an urban planner by trade, had a different response.
"Obviously, I mean I'm a big home rule person. I don't think that should be imposed on a municipality where eventually it could cost the taxpayers if we're liable for something and get sued...I'm not in support of that."
We ran that answer by Jordat and he offered this response...
"Well then my response would be the Village shouldn't do anything that would bring litigation against it."
Both candidates also talk about public safety and affordable housing, including a bill that also passed the Senate, which calls for millions to be spent on housing programs.
