The recent firing of the Lake Worth Beach city manager is a hot button issue, with Mimi May, who's running to oust District 3 Commissioner Kim Stokes, sharing her thoughts.
"It was the most horrific thing I've ever watched somebody do to another person, honestly. Nobody should treat another human being the way that my opponent treated Carmen Davis that day."
We asked Stokes about the firing, of which she was a "yes" vote.
"I've also heard a lot of concern or criticism about how it was done. I have not heard anybody suggest an alternate way of how we could have approached this issue."
The incumbent says that due to the Sunshine law, the only way to give a performance review is in the open and there was "no easy way to part ways with the city manager." Stokes also says she made sure an interim manager was ready before the termination occurred.
As to why Stokes thinks the voters in District 3 should give her another term over her opponent...
"I just think it all comes down to understanding the way that the city functions and works. She's (May) shown quite a few gaps in knowledge in just what we have control over and what we don't. And she still has a lot to learn."
May says these are the reasons she should be elected.
"I'm honest, I'm open-minded, I'm humble. I know that I've not done this before. But I also know that I'm smart, I'm a quick learner and I'm willing to ask for help."
