9 Year Old Boy Killed in Sarasota Riding Bicycle to School

SARASOTA -- A tragic accident in Sarasota, as a nine year old boy riding his bike to school was struck and killed by a pickup truck Monday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the driver, 25 year old Charity Lamb, saw a little girl on her bicycle as she pulled out onto Webber Street, and waved her through. But she didn't see the girl's brother, nine year old Roman Miller. The boy was taken to Doctors Hospital and pronounced dead there.

The children were on their way to Brentwood Elementary School.

"We feel horrible for (Lamb) as well. Her life will never be the same. She knows what she did. She knows that there was a crash... that resulted in the death of a nine year old boy," trooper Ken Watson said. He said the scene was also tough for first responders.

Watson says the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. He says this tragedy is a reminder for drivers to turn and look for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as other drivers, especially as school will be letting out over the next two weeks.
