Florida Governor DeSantis Signs Veterans Bill

TAMPA -- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis visited the veteran-friendly University of South Florida to sign a bill guaranteeing more options for Florida veterans suffering from brain injuries and post traumatic stress disorder... conditions that have driven some vets to suicide.

The bill would authorize the state Department of Veterans Affairs to contract with state universities to provide alternatives to drugs for veterans with brain injuries and PTSD. DeSantis says he pushed for those treatments while in Congress. He recalls instances where veterans would receive counseling and medication... then commit suicide. "(Their) family members... really believed that was not the proper treatment," DeSantis said.

The bill would also provide access to legal services for those veterans, by attorneys acting pro bono.
