BSO Deputy Killed In Crash Has Been Identified

Hearts are heavy at the Broward County Sheriff's office.

That's what they tweeted yesterday after a crash that killed a deputy who was responding to a call in Deerfield Beach.

BSO Deputy Benjamin Nimtz was responding to a domestic violence call early yesterday when he collided with a pickup truck in Deerfield Beach on Military Trail.

The pickup truck driver was hurt but is expected to survive.

Grieving deputies and firefighters escorted the body from the hospital to the medical examiner's office.

Nimtz, a U.S. Army veteran had been with the sheriff's office for about a year.

According to Jeff Bell, president of the Broward Sheriff's Office Deputies Association, Nimtz only had 3 weeks left before moving back to Indiana with his family.

A GoFundMe Page has been set up to help pay for funeral expenses.
