The West Palm Beach City Commission has unanimously approved an ordinance to allow for electric scooter rentals in the downtown area.
Before Monday night's meeting, the city evaluated other programs in Fort Lauderdale and places outside Florida like Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle.
A temporary moratorium had been placed on rental scooters in order to research the issue and come up with regulations.
Under the newly approved ordinance, only people ages 16 and older will be allowed to rent the scooters and everyone under the age of 18 will be required to wear a helmet.
