Miami-Dade Commissioners Vote On Virgin Aventura Train Station

Should a Virgin train station be built at Aventura mall? That's the question for Miami-Dade Commissioners taking a final vote this afternoon on whether or not to spend 76-million-dollars buying the land and building the station. But Javier Betancourt with the Citizens Independent Transportation Trust says the fares must be fair. The proposal requires Virgin to charge Aventura passengers no more than 65-percent of its Fort Lauderdale fare, making it a 10-dollar one-way trip from the mall to downtown Miami. He says this creates an unfair "Lexus lane" for mass transit which must be fixed.
