Boca Raton Police: No Evidence Of Shooting At Mall, Investigation Ongoing

What was being investigated as a possible shooting at a South Florida mall is now being called a "suspicious incident."

Boca Raton's police chief says there is no evidence that a gun was fired inside the Town Center Mall and a man who was taken to the hospital sustained an injury to the head when he ran into a door while trying to leave the mall.

Officials originally believed that man had been shot.

Shoppers reported hearing what sounded like balloons popping around 3 p.m. Sunday and video shows a large amount of people running from the mall, which was placed on lockdown after police arrived.

People still inside were forced to shelter in place for hours.

Employees and those who needed to retain personal items were allowed back in the mall around 9:30 p.m.
