Florida School District Posts Video Warning About School Threats

It seems not a week goes by where news breaks of a threat against a school, somewhere in Florida.

Indian River County has been dealing with the problem and the school district and sheriff's office there have teamed up on a video to warn would-be offenders.

"Making a fake threat is considered a felony offense."

The message goes on to say that it doesn't matter if you're joking or being sarcastic.

The video posted to the district's Facebook page, features teachers, coaches, students and school resource officers.

"The consequences for making a fake threat could be expulsion, suspension, 15 years jail time and up to a $10,000 fine."

Officials want to be sure that students are taking it seriously.

"A moment of joking about causing harm to your school or others will result in a lifetime of dealing with a felony record that will impact your ability to regain your reputation and find a career."

The officials in the video remind kids that their "community is listening" whether the threat is made on social media, through an email, text message or overheard in a hallway.
