Federal Corruption Trial Begins For Former Hallandale Beach Mayor

Jury selection set to begin today in the corruption trial of former Hallandale Beach Mayor Joy Cooper, who was at the helm for 13 years. After money laundering charges against her were dropped in August, Cooper now faces 6 charges-4 felonies and two misdemeanors --for her role in a 2018 undercover FBI sting called "Operation Red Chip" Former Commissioner Keith London says he knew something was off with land development deals she had inked. Cooper, who has plead not guilty, faces several years behind bars. Each felony charge carries a maximum 5-year sentence and the misdemeanors carry a maximum one-year sentence.
