Father Of Haiti Earthquake Victim From Florida Shares Details On Foundation

The father of a Florida college student who was killed in the Haiti earthquake that struck ten years ago Sunday shares details about a non-profit named after her.

Len Gengel is the President and co-founder of the Be Like Brit Foundation.

"I am in Haiti on a monthly basis. We have 100 plus Haitian employees. We are a total Haitian-run orphanage."

19-year old Britney Gengel had shared her desire to open an orphanage in Haiti while there on a mission trip to help the poor in 2010.

That's when the earthquake killed more than 300,000, including her and three other Lynn University students, along with two professors.

Brit's House, which the orphanage is known by, is shaped in the letter B for Britney, it's 19,000 square feet, in honor of her age (19) at the time that she was killed.

There are also 33 boys and 33 girls living there, in memory of the 33 days Len says it took to recover his daughter's body.

On this anniversary, Be Like Brit is premiering a documentary on the work that they've done, which includes bringing in volunteers weekly to build houses for the poor in Haiti. To date, the foundation has built 145 homes.
