Political Twist To Turnpike Stabbing

There's a political twist to a deadly stabbing that happened at a construction site along the Florida Turnpike on Monday.

Prosecutors say Mason Toney used a trowel to repeatedly stab his foreman, William Knight.

Knight's family says William and Mason were longtime friends and William recently helped Toney get work at the construction site located off Exit 254, near the Beachline.

Knight has been described as pro-American and a vocal supporter of President Trump while prosecutors say Toney is anti-government and feels he is being persecuted.

Toney allegedly placed an American flag next to his friend's body after the attack. Toney is accused of then stealing a car and speeding away from the scene. He was captured a few hours later.

Toney was originally charged with second-degree murder, but the charges were upped to first-degree after investigators learned that Toney bought the flag that he wanted to use in the attack on his foreman.

Toney made a brief court appearance on Tuesday morning and was ordered held on no bond.
