Florida City Meets To Consider Suing Feds Over Lake Okeechobee Discharges

Florida Declares State Of Emergency Over Toxic Algae Bloom From Lake Okeechobee

The Stuart City Commission will meet on Monday to talk further about a potential lawsuit against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

It's over the management of Lake Okeechobee levels.

Commissioners voted unanimously on first reading earlier this month to draft a suit against the corps.

They claim plans to hold more water in the lake during the dry season will increase the likelihood of discharges during the hot rainy season next summer, which could bring about harmful blue-green algae in local waterways.
