Man Faces DUI, Other Charges After Hit & Run Involving 5-Year Old Boy

A man faces charges of DUI and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries after a 5-year old boy was struck on Sunday in Boynton Beach.

Police say 60-year old Mark Hildreth hit the child while driving near Seacrest Boulevard and Southeast 34th Avenue.

The boy and his father were riding bicycles when Hildreth's vehicle hit him after his bike veered into the roadway.

According to a witness, Hildreth pulled over, got out of his car and said quote "he jumped out in front of me," before driving off.

A witness followed the man to his home, where another Good Samaritan positively identified him as the driver.

Police say they smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath when they questioned him and he refused to do both field sobriety and breathalyzer tests.

Hildreth makes a court appearance on Monday.
