If you've been along Clematis Street in downtown West Palm Beach recently, you may have noticed some changes.

Work has wrapped up on a stretch of roadway, to make it more pedestrian friendly as part of the Clematis StreetScape project.

"The feedback we've gotten from the merchants, and even the folks who have been down, has been absolutely astounding. Folks are over the moon. The sidewalks are wider so that the merchants, particularly those who own restaurants, they can put out more tables there."

Mayor Keith James says that's happened along the 100 to 300 blocks, and now the city plans to renovate the 400 and 500 blocks of Clematis, on the west side of Dixie Highway.

They'll be looking for the input of residents and merchants Wednesday.

"We're going to have city representatives, representatives from the design team as well as the engineering team that will be on site to solicit ideas. They'll also answer questions."

Business owners are invited to a meeting at City Hall, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Then a public meeting is being held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Clematis Streetscape Phase III

Meanwhile, there is a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the new 100 block of Clematis, by the fountains, Thursday night at 5:30 p.m., before the Super Clematis By Night concert from 90's band Smashmouth, which is an event tied to the Super Bowl in Miami.

"I've heard numbers as high as 15,000 people on our waterfront. But I don't want people to get alarmed. It will be safe. We have procedures and protocols in place and everyone can have a safe, fun time on our waterfront."
