Publix Wants To Waive Rent For Other Shops In Plazas Owned By The Chain

Publix is looking out for businesses operating in Publix-owned shopping centers that have closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The supermarket announced in a statement that they are offering rent relief packages, which includes waiving rent for two months, as well as waiving payments for common area maintenance fees and taxes.

Publix spokeswoman Maria Brous says "As a company that started as a small business 90 years ago, Publix wants to help businesses renting from us survive the economic impact of these unexpected closures.

The grocery store chain owns a little over a third, 34 percent, of the shopping plazas where their stores are located, including many in Florida.

Publix has also worked to help out seniors, offering special senior shopping hours (7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and helping all customers and their own employees by installing plexiglass between cashiers and customers, as well as at their pharmacy and customer service desks.

The supermarket has also been looking to hire 1,000 employees to fill the needs of shoppers who can no longer dine out.
