Woman Claims Miami Police Officers Hit and Spit On Her

A 25-year-old woman claims she was thrown to the ground, hit and spit on by Miami police officers.

In filing a formal notice of claim against the police department, Alexandria Curcie's attorneys say the young woman was just walking on a sidewalk after attending a peaceful protest against police brutality on May 30th when she was targeted.

Her attorneys John, Morgan, Adrian Mendiondo and Jim Martin say, “We believe this is yet another example of excessive and inappropriate force from police officers. While the majority of cops are true public servants, many officers are often emboldened by the lack of action of their supervisors and, consequently, feel they have a license to intimidate, bully, and sometimes kill. Our right to protest peacefully, as Alexandria was doing, is a fundamental freedom in America, and assaulting and spitting on a young woman exercising this right is beyond despicable. We will find the officers who did this and fight to hold them accountable.”

The department has six months to respond before the attorneys plan to file a lawsuit.

In a statement, the Miami Police Department says, "Counsel for the claimant has submitted a notice of claim to the City of Miami containing bare allegations and communicated their intent to file a lawsuit, It is the City of Miami's policy to not provide a comment on pending pre-suit claims until fully investigated or pending litigation matters."
