Biden Administration Denies Considering Florida Travel Restrictions

The Biden administration is denying reports that it's actively considering domestic travel restrictions to states like Florida, over concerns about a UK coronavirus variant.

Governor DeSantis is vowing to resist any proposals to do that, but a Biden administration official told Reuters that "no specific decisions are under consideration."

The governor on Thursday addressed the initial reports:

"Any attempt to restrict or lock down Florida by the federal government would be an attack on our state done purely for political purposes."

He said that if the White House tried it, he'll be ready to push back.

"We will not back down and if anyone tries to harm Floridians or target us, we will respond very swiftly."

The report did not specify that any particular state would be restricted, but Florida accounts for more than a third of U.S. cases of the highly contagious variant.
