Palm Beach Tax Collector Requires Employees Get COVID Vaccine

A Florida county constitutional officer is requiring her employees to have the COVID vaccine.

Palm Beach County Tax Collector Anne Gannon says all 315 of her staff members must be vaccinated against the coronavirus, despite an executive order from the governor that bans vaccine passports.

She told the Palm Beach Post the decision was made after she did some legal research on the issue.

Gannon says the big reason for the mandate is how often her employees interact with the public and that "a lot" of her workers have tested positive, including two in the past two weeks. Gannon says one employee died after contracting the virus.

The tax collector says most of her employees have either been fully vaccinated already or received at least one shot.

Anyone who hasn't and refuses will be terminated, barring medical reasons or religious beliefs.

We've reached out to Gannon's office for more comment, specifically regarding whether any of her research showed that she could win a challenge in the courts should Gov. DeSantis file one.
