Attorneys for the Palm Beach County School Board have concluded that an executive order signed by the governor on Friday makes it impossible to enforce a mask mandate for students.

Chairman Frank Barbieri had instructed legal counsel to look into the order, which is aimed at allowing parents to make the decision as to whether their kids wear masks in class.

He says the executive order authorizes parents to disregard any Board action that the school board may put in regarding masks. It threatens to withhold funding from school district's that punish students for refusing to wear masks.

Barbieri says the district will strongly urge the wearing of masks on campus and the school board is expected to discuss the issue on Wednesday.

School starts in Palm Beach on Tuesday Aug. 10.
