Florida woman shot, boyfriend stabbed during Christmas Eve fight

A Florida woman was arrested on Christmas Eve after she threatened a man with a gun and stabbed him in the leg after he refused to spend time with her.

Brevard County deputies arrested 30-year-old Melissa Liput on December 24th after Liput called the sheriff’s office and claimed she’d been the victim of a crime.

When investigators arrived at Liput’s Cocoa home, they found her with a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital, but was uncooperative with deputies as they investigated the shooting.

A short while later, deputies were called to a Merritt Island home where a man was being treated for multiple stab wounds.

The man said that he had been dating Liput for six months and had gone to her home to pick up some belongings, but suspected there might be an issue so he brought along a friend who waited in the truck.

The man told authorities Liput welcomed him into her home, but became enraged and pointed a gun at his head when the man said he wouldn’t be spending the night.

The man told investigators Liput, a combat veteran, had her finger on the trigger and put him in fear for his life.

The two struggled as the man tried to wrestle the gun away from Liput before Liput stabbed the man multiple times in the arm and leg and the gun going off.

The man took the gun and ran from the home. His friend drove him to the Merritt Island home where deputies found him.

Liput faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, felony battery domestic violence and aggravated assault domestic violence.
