In Person Memorial Day Ceremonies Return at Florida's National Cemeteries

BAY PINES -- The V-A is holding Memorial Day tributes in cemeteries across west central Florida.

For the first time since the pandemic, national cemeteries are holding full in person Memorial Day ceremonies.

The ceremony at Bay Pines Cemetery near St. Petersburg starts at 10 a.m. At Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, the start time is 11:00 a.m.

Some Florida cemeteries are holding events over the weekend. At Sarasota National Cemetery, the event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and includes musicians and singers from Pine View School.

Events are also taking place at locations other than national cemeteries. A ceremony is taking place at 11 a.m. at MacDill Park in downtown Tampa. Mayor Jane Castor and Vice Admiral James Malloy from U.S. Central Command will speak, and about two dozen Gold Star family members are expected to attend.

The Tampa Bay Veterans Alliance is hosting a ceremony Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Florida Veterans Memorial plaza at Crest Lake Park on South Glenwood Avenue in Clearwater.
